Seriously Desperate Housewife

I was totally born and bred to be a working gal. I suck at home care stuff and I hate it. How I wish Home Ec was mandatory for high schoolers of both genders.
It's not that the house is ever a total pigsty, it's just that there's always a back up of dishes, laundry, mail, and random odds and ends and I'm not accustomed to living that way. All of you who have been to my mother's house know how immaculate she keeps it and it was always that way even when we were kids. That's probably why she'd blow up and complain about feeling unappreciated every so often. I get it now. She figgin worked her ass off keeping that house in tip-top shape. Granted my mom has always worked part-time. I wish that I could work part time. But who I am kidding, it's summer, I was working part-time and it didn't make much of a difference. Although this week I was at a course all day from 8-3 and things got more backed up because of it. Whatever.
Anyhow, I'm always down on myself about how I keep the house and I need to know that I'm not the only one out there. Please people, tell me that you go through this too.

I go through this too, I like to keep the house super clean, but after a long work day, or when I'm feeling stressed and just want to relax or whatever, the house goes to crap. Kate and I try to keep a good balance of getting the cleaning done. And dude, don't blame the Women's Movement! Blame the men for not stepping up and accepting their share of the responsibility of keeping the house clean! I think the problem is, different people have different tolerances for how messy a house can get, and one person always cracks before the other. Maybe what you could do is say "1st floor is your responsibility, 2nd floor is mine" and then you only have to really worry about half. And if the other half turns into a real shithole, then at least you know it's not your fault. :)
You seemed perfectly capable on Sunday, Jenny!
Of course you're not the only one out there. It happens to me all the time, too, and I live by myself so there is noone else to blame!
I'm right there with you, Jenny! If you think it's bad now, wait til you throw a kid or 2 into the mix! Seriously, the laundry and dishes can NEVER be all done!
You can only do what you can do. Don't be hard on yourself!
You know what, everyone has to deal with all this stuff. Everyone makes dirty dishes, laundry, etc etc...
It's part of the never ending grind called life....
Of course you could just wear one set of clothes and eat off one dish...... but that's just silly, and society would shun you! SHUNNNNNNNNNNN!
i am a working mother as well, and i such at house work also. i use to be a stay at home mom. it was so much more easier to keep on top of things. working nights are a killer. some times i don't know if i am coming or going. we should started a working mother club. and every year get together with other working moms and have a nice dinner and enjoy a day of r and r
